Map shows approximate inundation areas for given water surface elevations and should not be used for navigation or permitting or other legal purposes, but strictly as a planning reference tool.

Site-specific information:
(1) These maps depict the impacts of the Cedar River backwater on smaller local tributary streams. The maps do not make any assumptions on the flow conditions on the local tributaries. Mapping on smaller local tributary streams may not represent actual conditions during periods of high flows on the smaller local tributary streams.

(2) This map shows flooding that is representative of 2013 conditions. The accuracy of the mapping will be reduced if flood protection systems are developed or enhanced in post 2013 conditions.

(3) The AHPS mapping shows that the levee protecting downtown Cedar Falls is overtopped at a stage of 102. Cedar Falls was not flooded in the 2008 flood when the river crested at 102.1 ft. This is because the levee was sandbagged to prevent overtopping. The model used to develop the AHPS mapping assumes that no sandbagging is in place.

(4) The AHPS flood inundation maps, when compared to the regulatory FEMA DFIRM mapping, will depict different flooding scenarios. The differences occur because AHPS and FEMA maps have been designed for different purposes and developed based on different assumptions.
